A living medical system, not a spa add-on

Ayurveda & wellness, in more detail

Practised continuously in Kerala for centuries, with its own hospitals, colleges, and regulatory body (AYUSH) — helped by a monsoon climate particularly suited to the oil-based treatments and herbal preparations the tradition uses. Here's what each category actually involves.

Detox & cleansing

Panchakarma

A structured programme of oil treatments, steam and cleansing procedures, built around your own constitution and followed under practitioner supervision — traditionally used as a seasonal reset rather than a response to any specific condition.

Rasayana therapy

Rejuvenation

Rasayana practice centres on sustained wellness and vitality — diet, herbal preparations and daily routine, built up gradually rather than delivered as a single treatment.

Relevant to your recovery

Pain & joint care

Gentle, complementary bodywork and herbal application that some guests choose alongside a joint-replacement recovery — scheduled around your physiotherapy, never in place of it, and only once your surgical team has confirmed you're ready for it.

Nervous system care

Stress & sleep

Calming head and body oil treatments and quiet daily routines, aimed at rest and settling the nervous system — a gentle counterpart to the more active parts of a recovery stay.

Alongside your recovery stay

Post-surgical recovery support

Scheduled with your care team's input, around your physiotherapy and rest — a complement to your recovery, never a substitute for it or for any follow-up your surgeon has asked for.

What Ayurveda is, and isn't, here

Every programme here is offered as complementary wellness alongside your stay — not a medical alternative to orthopaedic treatment or to any diagnosed condition. Nothing on this page is a treatment claim, and we don't promise a specific health outcome.

Programmes are delivered by AYUSH-regulated practitioners and scheduled around your surgeon's and physiotherapist's guidance — always discuss combining Ayurveda with your recovery plan with your care team first.

Questions about adding Ayurveda

Is Ayurveda part of my orthopaedic treatment plan?

No. It's a separate, optional wellness add-on to your recovery stay — Aster Medcity and your surgeon remain solely responsible for your orthopaedic treatment.

Can I start Ayurveda before my surgeon clears me?

Any Ayurveda programme during a joint-replacement recovery is scheduled with your surgical team's input — not started independently of their guidance.

Do I have to choose between surgery and Ayurveda?

No — most guests combine both. Ayurveda here is complementary wellness, never presented as an alternative to orthopaedic surgery.

Who actually delivers the Ayurveda programme?

AYUSH-regulated Ayurveda practitioners — the same government framework that regulates Ayurvedic medicine across India.

Can I do a standalone Ayurveda stay, without surgery?

Yes — a standalone Ayurveda and wellness stay is available independent of any procedure.
